Sometimes You Just Need a Little Paint and a Vision

Our recent client Julia, shared her home journey story with us as well as some photos from her recent renovation.  Those before and afters are pretty amazing! Client’s with just a little bit of Joanna and Chip Gaines in their blood can truly have a lot of fun once they get started.

 

How did you discover the neighborhood you ended up buying your home in and what made you love it?

I first discovered the neighborhood where I ended up buying because of its location in Charlottesville. Josh helped me find a couple of neighborhoods that were both in the location I desired and within my budget. Once Josh knew the location I desired, he was the one who found the house I ended up purchasing!
 

What was your experience like working with Story House Real Estate?

My experience with Story House was really great! I never imagined the home buying process could be fun, but the Story House team made it just that. What was amazing to see was how this team worked together to support me. If Josh couldn’t be at a showing, one of his teammates happily stepped up. If I had a question, I could contact anyone from their team. Another cool part of working with Story House was the small gestures and surprises along the home buying journey. From candy grams to blue Tiffany boxes, wine, gift cards, pizza delivery and pie, I received many Story House surprises!

 

What was the journey like buying your new home?

The home buying journey with Story House Real Estate was like a roller coaster ride for kids! There were certainly a few ups and downs but nothing that sent me flying upside down or into the dark. And nothing was scary or daunting. I have Josh White to thank for that. He explained every part of the process to me in detail so I was never surprised by anything. He helped me make informed decisions and advocated for me. When a couple of our offers were not accepted, Josh was my cheerleader and the positive energy I needed to keep my chin up to keep on looking.

 

What was the first thing you wanted to change in your home?
The better question is, what did I not want to change! ….the floor to ceiling built-in shelves is the answer to that question!
So many things needed updating, renovating or just demolished, but the big thing was making the place feel more spacious by opening up the wall between the living room and kitchen. That was definitely a priority. And second to that was removing the carpet in the living room and putting down new flooring, which we tackled on our own.
 

What was your favorite part of the renovation process? 
Demo day! I enjoyed the demoing as much as Chip Gaines on Fixer Upper! I also enjoyed making the space my own. Choosing paint colors, flooring, trim, and new appliances that I picked out was really fun.
