Whether you’re an avid social athlete or an avid social butterfly, the C’ville Sports and Social Club (CVSSC) may have something to offer you! This club has all levels of play, from the “Super Social” League (more socializing, fun, and occasionally a few beers) to much more advanced Leagues containing some pretty talented, and sometimes pretty serious athletes. CVSSC offers tons of sports, ranging from flip cup (essentially a competitive drinking game, perfect for the less athletically inclined) to dodgeball, kickball, volleyball, soccer, wallyball, and flag football.
These sports are an excellent way to meet new people (couples and singles!), re-live your healthier, more athletic days, and find a great group of people around town who know how to have a fun time out in the field! It is high on my list of things I recommend for new Charlottesville residents to look in to as it’s a great opportunity to meet some new folks and explore different parks and fields around town. The ages of players range significantly, but I would pinpoint the target audience to be 20 – 4o year olds.
You can visit the Sports and Social Club website at any time to check in on their seasonal sports. The seasons are roughly as follows;
- Flag Football: Spring, Summer, Fall
- Soccer: Summer
- Flip Cup: New, maybe Year-Round?
- Sand Volleyball: Spring, Summer, Fall
- Dodgeball: Winter
- Kickball: Spring, Summer, Fall
- Wallyball: Winter, ?
In addition to just the games that the Leagues cover, CVSSC also comes up with fun social ideas (a bus to Foxfield every year, tubing trips, bar nights, etc) and always has a bar that sponsors the Club each season, which provides a home base for all of the players to meet up and socialize at after the game.
Another neat perk that few people seem to take advantage of is the “specials” card that you receive when you join CVSSC- this card offers lots of great food, drink, and discount specials at restaurants and shops all around town, and membership almost pays for itself if you frequent the locations that it covers!
The summer sports that are currently accepting registrations are kickball, soccer, flip cup, and sand volleyball. Go register now before time runs out! Worried that you can’t gather a team in time? Register as a free agent and get picked up by another team.
