Pollak Vineyards is one of my favorites in town- it is a little newer and smaller than several in the Crozet/Afton/Greenwood area of the Virginia wine trail, and the scenery is gorgeous. Located now far off of the Crozet exit off of Route 64 (Exit 107), Pollak is a beautiful place to just relax and take the day in.
Pollak has a wide variety of really delicious wines, and I highly recommend a barrel tasting while you’re there. Opening it’s doors as recently as 2008, I have heard many compliment their wine making expertise, and give rave reviews for the 2008 Pinot Gris and their 2006 Meritage. For those not as interested in wine tasting, they serve delicious local jams and cheeses on fresh baguettes, and there are plenty of tables set up both inside and out for relaxing and taking in the sun.
We were lucky enough to pass through on one of their barrel tasting days, which only occur on two spring weekends out of the year (March 20/21 and March 27/28) and would highly recommend catching them next weekend if at all possible!
Some details about their barrel tastings directly from the Pollack website;
Spring Barrel TastingsBased upon the success of last year’s barrel tastings, we will again offer this on two weekends in the spring.Mark your calendars:March 20 and 21March 27 and 28The line up will include 5 wines; our 2008 cabernet sauvignon, the 2008 Meritage, the 2007 Meritage, our 2009 chardonnay , and a sample of our white port style viognier. We thought it would be interesting to compare the 2008 Meritage which will be bottled in April and the 2007 Meritage which will have been in a bottle before its spring release.The last wine, our port style viognier, was sampled at our December wine dinner and was a hit.We look forward to sharing this newest wine which is made entirely with estate grown grapes. Participants may reserve a case of the wines to be paid and picked up within 30 days of their release. Six bottles of the port may also be reserved.Special tasting fee: $10 for non case club members
